Historique
Hôtel particulier, exemple représentatif, élevé pour une famille de la haute notabilité clermontoise dans la première moitié du 18e siècle. Construit pour les Tavernier de Boulogne, magistrats au bailliage et en la maîtrise des eaux et forêts, l'hôtel est implanté sur l'ancienne place du Marché-au-Blé presque en face de l'hôtel de ville. Bâti partie en brique et pierre, partie en pierre de taille, il se compose de deux corps de logis parallèles reliés par deux ailes en retour d'équerre délimitant une cour intérieure. Le décor se concentre essentiellement au niveau de la façade sur la place - avant corps en saillie avec pilastres et consoles - lucarnes. Les maçonneries de brique rythmées de chaînes harpées en pierre de taille, ont conservé en grande partie leur enduit de plâtre. A l'intérieur, seule la rampe en fer forgé de l'escalier d'honneur subsiste-t-elle des aménagements ornementaux du 18e siècle.

History
Private mansion, representative example, erected for a family of high rank in Clermont society in the first half of the 18th century. Built for the Tavernier of Boulogne, magistrates to the bailliage and to the mastery of waters and forests, the mansion is situated on the former Marché-au-Blé place almost opposite the town hall. Built partly in brick and stone, partly in ashlar, it consists of two parallel dwelling blocks connected by two wings in a right angle return delimiting an interior courtyard. The decoration concentrates essentially at the level of the façade on the square - projecting front with pilasters and consoles - dormers. The brick masonry rhythmed with ashlar chains, has largely retained its plaster render. Inside, only the wrought-iron handrail of the staircase of honour remains from the ornamental fittings of the 18th century.
