History

The château de Tartigny was built in the middle of the 16th century by the Montmorency-Laval family and has retained part of its modelling and Renaissance architectural decoration (west wing), notably featuring a superposition of composite-order pilasters, an entablature with metopes and projecting tables. The west wing is flanked by a cylindrical turret 25 m high which offers similar Renaissance ornamentation. The château underwent very substantial alterations in the 19th century, both in terms of roofing (roof spaces straightened, neo-Gothic dormers) and masonry (render with false joints). The property also retains an octagonal dovecote from the 17th or 18th century, in cob, as well as a remarkable circular kitchen garden from the middle of the 19th century enclosed by a brick wall, one of the only examples of this type in northern France. With regard to interior decoration, one can note the former kitchen, with its fireplace and the central single-cylinder pier from the 16th century, as well as the neo-Louis XVI woodwork and stuccos from the Second Empire period.
