La salle des fêtes et l'école ménagère du quartier furent inaugurées en 1910 alors que les stériles de la fosse remplissaient progressivement l'immense sablière qui occupait à l'époque l'emplacement de la future place Casimir Périer. L'école accueillait les jeunes filles de 14 à 18 ans qui étaient formées à la vie pratique (cuisine, ménage, nettoyage, éducation des enfants) afin de devenir des femmes d'intérieur. La formation durait trois ans. Le dessin de l'avant-projet est dressé en 1907. Il comporte une élévation et le plan du rez-de-chaussée. A l'avant se trouve le logement pour la directrice avec, au rez-de-chaussée, bureau, cuisine et salle à manger donnant sur la façade principale. Le vestibule de l'escalier avec toilette et débarras sert d'espace tampon avec les locaux d'enseignement. Un couloir dessert à droite, dans une aile perpendiculaire, une salle de couture et de repassage ; à gauche une vaste cuisine. Le couloir est prolongé par une galerie vitrée donnant sur le jardin arrière et terminée par des lavabos et deux WC. Cette galerie ouvre sur la buanderie. Après la Seconde guerre mondiale, l'école fut transformée en lycée d'enseignement professionnel. A cette époque fut construite une aile supplémentaire afin d'accueillir les élèves dans de bonnes conditions.

History
The festival hall and the domestic science school in the neighbourhood were inaugurated in 1910 while the tailings from the pit were progressively filling the immense sand quarry which at the time occupied the site of the future Casimir Périer square. The school welcomed girls aged 14 to 18 who were trained in practical life (cooking, housekeeping, cleaning, childcare) in order to become housewives. The training lasted three years. The preliminary design drawing was drawn up in 1907. It comprises an elevation and the ground floor plan. At the front is the lodging for the headmistress with, on the ground floor, office, kitchen and dining room opening onto the main façade. The vestibule of the staircase with toilet and storage serves as a buffer space with the teaching areas. A corridor serves on the right, in a perpendicular wing, a sewing and ironing room; on the left a vast kitchen. The corridor is extended by a glazed gallery opening onto the rear garden and terminated by washbasins and two WCs. This gallery opens onto the laundry room. After the Second World War, the school was transformed into a vocational education secondary school. At that time an additional wing was built in order to accommodate the students in good conditions.
