Historique
La fosse de la Sentinelle fut ouverte en 1818. Grâce à l'activité minière, le hameau autrefois rural se peupla rapidement. Les premiers corons furent construits en 1826. L'activité de la fosse s'arrêta en 1830. Dès 1847 est étudiée la possibilité de transformer la fosse en église. Le puits est définitivement scellé en 1852. En 1853, une chapelle est élevée sur son emplacement, bénie en 1854. Des travaux d'agrandissement de la sacristie et pour l'installation des fonts baptismaux, d'une tribune pour les enfants de choeur et d'un tambour sont entrepris en 1872.

History
The Sentinelle pit was opened in 1818. Thanks to mining activity, the formerly rural hamlet rapidly became populated. The first miners' terraced houses were constructed in 1826. The pit's activity ceased in 1830. From 1847 onwards the possibility of transforming the pit into a church was studied. The shaft was permanently sealed in 1852. In 1853, a chapel was erected on its site, blessed in 1854. Works for enlargement of the sacristy and for the installation of baptismal fonts, a gallery for the choir boys and a vestibule were undertaken in 1872.
