The reconstruction of the castle is often attributed to Jean Van Houtte between 1364 and 1380. The keep was erected in the 15th century. In 1532, the seigneury of Flêtre passed by marriage into the family of Wignacourt. In 1799, the castle was destroyed, but the keep was preserved, its destruction having proved too difficult. In the early 19th century, an industrialist purchased the property, built a dwelling at the location of the destroyed castle, and converted the keep into a reception hall, decorated with wainscoting in the Louis XV style. From 1869 to 1872, a neo-gothic manor was constructed towards the south of the keep, which still retains the general arrangements and original decoration.
