Historique

History
In 1922, the date of the construction of the church of Raincy by Perret, the project for the reconstruction of the church of Comines destroyed by acts of war was born. The architect Maurice Storez, to whom the commission was made, quickly requested the collaboration of Dom Bellot within the framework of the association L'Arche. He builds a church of centralized plan whose transepts will not be realized for lack of money. The framework is in reinforced concrete, the infill bricks form a decoration in pinkish tones. The apparent structure plays a role of decoration, like the ribs of the vaults of the dome and the arcs of springing of the vaults. The roof coverings are terraces. The taking up of the charges of the dome structure and the plan are borrowed from Romanesque architecture. Dom Bellot also designed the furnishings. This is the first French work of Dom Bellot, which begins in 1929, the year of the completion of Comines, the convent of Wisques.
