Nées avec l'explosion industrielle du 19e siècle, et surtout celle du travail textile, les courées représentaient un moyen économique rentable pour loger la main-d'oeuvre locale et étrangère. S'agissant de rangs de maisons accolées les unes aux autres, ce mode d'habitat a explosé en un siècle. Il ne reste cependant que peu de témoignages intacts. Les courées Dubar et Dekien, à l'origine indépendantes l'une de l'autre, sont formées de deux rangées de maisons se faisant face de part et d'autre d'une bande de terrain. Deux types de maisons se juxtaposent : des maisons à otil, d'aspect rural, datant des années 1840, et d'autres, plus tardives, des alentours de 1880. Les courées Dubar et Dekien sont devenues l'un des rares témoignages de ce type d'habitat, capital pour l'histoire économique et sociale de Roubaix.

History
Born with the industrial explosion of the 19th century, and especially that of textile work, the courées represented an economical and profitable means of housing the local and foreign workforce. Being rows of houses adjoining one another, this form of housing exploded in a century. However, few intact examples remain. The Dubar and Dekien courées, originally independent of one another, are formed of two rows of houses facing each other across a strip of land. Two types of houses are juxtaposed: houses with otil, of rural appearance, dating from the 1840s, and others, later, from around 1880. The Dubar and Dekien courées have become one of the rare examples of this type of housing, capital for the economic and social history of Roubaix.
