History
The construction of the Institut Diderot was decided by the municipal administration led by Roger Salengro. Work of the architects Alleman and Chenal, the lycée, constructed from 1934 on the site of 19th-century fortifications, was inaugurated in 1938. It presents to the south a highly rhythmic brick façade 158 metres long which offered a perspective with the jardin des plantes situated opposite (Mérimée record PA59000009). A porch tower in ironwork gives access to the hall decorated with ceramics, lighting fixtures, balustrades, etc.
