La chapelle Saint-Gengoult isolée dans un hameau bénéficie d'un beau site naturel en face du Mont Beuvray. Édifiée au 12e siècle, elle était jusqu'en 1789 une église paroissiale. Le chœur roman subsiste et présente des pilastres cannelés avec chapiteaux à décor végétal (modeste imitation de la cathédrale Saint-Lazare d'Autun). Une grande partie de la nef, côté ouest, s'est effondrée. Après avoir été une chapelle de pèlerinage pour les paysans morvandiaux, car Saint-Gengoult était invoqué pour les affections des yeux et des jambes et pour la protection du bétail, elle est actuellement une chapelle sépulcrale privée. La chapelle est située au sud-ouest du village, en bordure d'un chemin reliant le château de Rivière à Larochemillay. Une terrasse occupe la place de l'ancienne nef effondrée. Elle est bordée au sud-est par un mur de soutènement. Le plan de la chapelle est rectangulaire. Elle est prolongée par un chœur à chevet plat désaxé. La façade ouest est percée d'une porte cintrée surmontée d'un oculus circulaire, encadré de pierre de taille appareillée. Elle est dominée par un clocher bas à 4 pans. History
The chapel of Saint-Gengoult, isolated in a hamlet, benefits from a fine natural site opposite Mont Beuvray. Built in the 12th century, it was until 1789 a parish church. The Romanesque choir remains and presents fluted pilasters with capitals decorated with foliage (modest imitation of the cathedral of Saint-Lazare at Autun). A large part of the nave, on the west side, has collapsed. After having been a pilgrimage chapel for Morvan peasants, since Saint-Gengoult was invoked for afflictions of the eyes and legs and for the protection of cattle, it is currently a private funerary chapel. The chapel is situated to the southwest of the village, on the edge of a path linking the castle of Rivière to Larochemillay. A terrace occupies the place of the old collapsed nave. It is bordered to the southeast by a retaining wall. The plan of the chapel is rectangular. It is extended by a choir with a flat, off-axis chevet.
