Historique
La batterie de Port-Blanc, ensemble fortifié, est située sur la commune de Sauzon, à Belle-Ile-en-Mer, point stratégique. Afin de protéger le port et le bourg de Sauzon, il est décidé à la fin du XVIIe siècle, de construire deux ouvrages militaires se faisant face : la batterie de Port-Blanc à l'est et la batterie de la pointe de Cardinal à l'ouest. Edifiée sur d'anciens retranchements, elle était constituée d'un parapet demi-circulaire assorti d'un corps de garde en retrait. La batterie est un témoignage des premiers aménagements défensifs raisonnés de Belle-Ile voulus par Vauban. Elle a été abandonnée sous le Second Empire. Intégrée au dispositif du « Mur de l'Atlantique », elle est utilisée par les Allemands entre 1942 et 1943.

History
The Port-Blanc battery, a fortified ensemble, is situated on the commune of Sauzon, at Belle-Ile-en-Mer, a strategic point. In order to protect the port and the town of Sauzon, it was decided at the end of the 17th century to construct two military works facing each other: the Port-Blanc battery to the east and the battery of the pointe de Cardinal to the west. Built on ancient entrenchments, it consisted of a semicircular parapet accompanied by a guard house set back. The battery is testimony to the first reasoned defensive arrangements of Belle-Ile desired by Vauban. It was abandoned under the Second Empire. Integrated into the system of the "Atlantic Wall", it was used by the Germans between 1942 and 1943.
