Le site de Castel est d'occupation très ancienne puisque y subsistent encore à l'heure actuelle les vestiges d'une motte castrale. L'existence d'un château n'est toutefois attestée par les textes que depuis 1390 : il appartenait alors à la famille de Castel qui le possède encore de nos jours. Le château actuel est isolé au sein d'un vaste domaine partiellement boisé comprenant quatre ensembles distincts. Le premier correspond au château à proprement parler. Il comprend le logis, construit en deux campagnes (1759-1761, puis à partir de 1783) , composé d'un corps central rectangulaire flanqué par deux corps de dépendances ; l'intérieur a conservé ses dispositions et boiseries d'origine, ainsi que les deux escaliers en bois situés aux angles du corps central ; deux autres bâtiments de dépendances sont situés un peu plus loin, dans l'alignement des précédents : il s'agit d'écuries et de granges de la première moitié du 17e siècle ; une basse-cour comprenant le colombier (du début du 17e siècle) a conservé son système d'échelle tournante ; une métairie et une grange datent de 1860 ; la chapelle, de plan rectangulaire, datée de 1771, était située à l'ouest ; au nord, un jardin du 17e siècle a été aménagé vers 1800 en parc à l'anglaise, et un potager construit à l'est vers 1800 ; au nord-ouest, une glacière ruinée s'appuie contre le mur de clôture du jardin. Les trois autres ensembles sont constitués par la ferme, située à l'est du château et composée de deux corps de bâtiments parallèles, le moulin, daté 1809, désaffecté et en mauvais état, situé au nord-est du domaine, et enfin, la motte castrale située au nord du château.

History
The site of Castel has very ancient occupation since there still subsist at present day the remains of a motte. The existence of a castle is however attested by texts only from 1390: it then belonged to the Castel family which still possesses it to this day. The present castle is isolated within a vast estate partially wooded comprising four distinct ensembles. The first corresponds to the castle proper. It comprises the main dwelling, built in two campaigns (1759-1761, then from 1783), composed of a rectangular central body flanked by two bodies of outbuildings; the interior has preserved its original arrangements and woodwork, as well as the two wooden staircases situated at the angles of the central body; two other outbuilding structures are situated a little further, in line with the previous ones: these are stables and barns of the first half of the 17th century; a lower courtyard comprising the dovecote (of the beginning of the 17th century) has preserved its rotating ladder system; a farmhouse and a barn date from 1860; the chapel, of rectangular plan, dated 1771, was situated to the west; to the north, a 17th century garden was arranged around 1800 as an English park, and a kitchen garden built to the east around 1800; to the north-west, a ruined ice house leans against the garden enclosure wall. The three other ensembles are constituted by the farm, situated to the east of the castle and composed of two bodies of parallel buildings, the mill, dated 1809, disused and in poor condition, situated to the north-east of the estate, and finally, the motte situated to the north of the castle.
