History
The fireplace would be the work of Gérard Richier conceived for the school. It comprises two registers in high relief. The lower register is centred on a cartouche inscribed with a verse from the Gospel and flanked by Faith and Hope. The upper register represents Jesus seated, framed by six apostles. Seven women present their newborns to him and four children play at his feet. Eight verses on the cartouche explain the scene, drawing on the Gospel of Saint Mark. The jambs suggest a reuse of the finest elements of this fireplace from the old school, assembled in the current form towards the end of the 18th century.
