"En 1825, la commune de Mont décidait la construction d'une mairie, réutilisant un lavoir existant. Les plans ayant été élaborés le 7 février 1826 par l'architecte départemental Théodore Oudet (1795-1865) , les travaux furent adjugés le 27 mai suivant au sieur Deshay, entrepreneur local, pour la somme de 7 200 francs. En 1827, ils étaient interrompus à la demande des habitants, en raison de l'avancée jugée trop importante de la construction sur la voie publique. Après remblaiements des fondations, démolition d'un mur et déplacement du lavoir, les travaux reprirent en 1828 et leur réception put être effectuée le 17 août 1829. En 1922, le parquet des deux pièces était remplacé et la toiture réparée. Le lavoir étant toujours en eau, le bâtiment abrite à présent le service du cadastre communal. Construit en pierres de taille de Mont et de Chauvency, le bâtiment comporte deux niveaux couverts d'une toiture à croupes revêtue d'ardoises. Le premier niveau est celui du lavoir, au plafond plat surmonté de l'étage de la mairie, auquel donne accès un escalier à deux volées convergentes, adossées au mur. L'espace intérieur de l'étage est divisé en deux parties : à droite, la salle de la municipalité et à gauche, celle du greffe ; dans l'intervalle, une étroite volée d'escalier droit dessert les combles. Les dimensions réduites du bâtiment - 10, 00 m sur 5, 76 m au sol - sont compensées par la qualité de l'architecture et l'habileté de la stéréotomie, dans une pure expression néo-classique. Deux bandeaux délimitent les niveaux, où les percements sont en plein cintres au rez-de-chaussée et rectangulaires aux niveaux supérieurs. Une ligne d'impostes réunit les baies cintrées alors que de discrets larmiers rehaussent les linteaux des fenêtres aux garde-corps typiques, en croix de Saint-André. La faîtière, composant un motif ondé, est couronnée par une girouette. La façade principale, au nord, est rythmée par trois travées, à deux fenêtres thermales au rez-de-chaussée pour tenir compte de l'escalier. A l'étage, la porte encadrée de deux niches aveugles est couronnée de l'inscription "Municipalité", en lettres de bronze. A l'intérieur, l'ancienne salle du greffe conserve une élégante cheminée, qui a gardé sa plaque d'origine, timbrée des trois fleurs de lis des armes royales reprises sous la restauration."

In 1825, the commune of Mont decided on the construction of a town hall, reusing an existing washhouse. After backfilling of the foundations, demolition of a wall and relocation of the washhouse, the works resumed in 1828 and their completion could be effected on 17 August 1829. In 1922, the flooring of the two rooms was replaced and the roof repaired. The washhouse being still in water, the building now houses the service of the communal cadastral register. Built in dressed stone from Mont and Chauvency, the building comprises two storeys covered with a hipped roof clad with slate. The first storey is that of the washhouse, with a flat ceiling surmounted by the storey of the town hall, to which access is given by a staircase with two converging flights, set against the wall. The interior space of the storey is divided into two parts: on the right, the council chamber and on the left, that of the registrar's office; in the interval, a narrow flight of straight stairs serves the roof space. The reduced dimensions of the building - 10.00 m by 5.76 m on the ground - are compensated by the quality of the architecture and the skill of the stonework, in a pure neo-classical expression. Two bands delimit the storeys, where the openings are round-arched on the ground floor and rectangular on the upper storeys. A line of impost mouldings unites the arched openings while discreet drip moulds enhance the lintels of the windows with typical guard-rails, in St. Andrew's cross. The ridge, composing a wave motif, is crowned by a weathervane. The main façade, to the north, is rhythmed by three bays, with two thermal windows on the ground floor to account for the staircase. On the storey, the door framed by two blind niches is crowned by the inscription "Municipalité", in bronze letters. Inside, the former registrar's office preserves an elegant fireplace, which has retained its original surround, marked with the three fleurs-de-lis of the royal arms resumed under the Restoration.
