Chellé, cité dès 616 dans le testament de Saint-Bertrand, évêque du Mans, rassemble, aujourd'hui, les vestiges d'un important domaine médiéval : donjon roman auquel est venue s'accoler, au milieu du 13ème siècle, une résidence seigneuriale dont la grande salle possède encore des traces de son décor peint ; porterie ; chapelle intégrée au logis et chapelle extérieure ; douves ; étang...Il s'agit d'un site majeur qui conserve potentiellement la motte originale. Il convient également de mentionner la présence d'un réseau de voies gauloises très dense dans la région ainsi que la découverte d'un important matériel lithique à proximité du site. Il existe un monolithe dans la cour identifié comme une stèle gauloise.

Chellé, mentioned as early as 616 in the testament of Saint-Bertrand, bishop of Le Mans, brings together today the vestiges of an important medieval estate: a Romanesque keep to which was added, in the middle of the 13th century, a seigneurial residence of which the great hall still possesses traces of its painted decoration; gatehouse; chapel integrated into the dwelling and external chapel; moats; pond...This is a major site which potentially preserves the original motte. It should also be mentioned the presence of a network of very dense Gallic paths in the region as well as the discovery of important lithic material near the site. There exists a monolith in the courtyard identified as a Gallic stele.
