La colonne fut érigée en 1866 et inauguré en 1867 afin de commémorer les batailles de février 1814 qui virent la victoire des troupes de l'empereur Napoléon 1er. Ce monument, à l'architecture néo-classique, fut implanté à l'endroit précis où se trouvait l'empereur au moment le plus décisif de la bataille. La colonne repose sur un emmarchement de cinq marches avec, au-dessus, le piédestal portant, sur le dé, des inscriptions différentes, notamment un texte de Victor Hugo, ainsi que les dates des batailles et celle de l'année de construction du monument.

History
The column was erected in 1866 and inaugurated in 1867 in order to commemorate the battles of February 1814 which saw the victory of the troops of Emperor Napoleon I. This monument, of Neo-classical architecture, was placed at the precise location where the emperor stood at the most decisive moment of the battle. The column rests on a stepped base of five steps with, above, the pedestal bearing, on the dado, various inscriptions, notably a text by Victor Hugo, as well as the dates of the battles and that of the year of construction of the monument.
