Historique
Désireux d'honorer sur le pont de la Concorde dix généraux morts au combat, Napoléon commanda à Pierre Cartellier une statue du général Valhubert, mort à Austerlitz en 1805. Le modèle en plâtre fut terminé en 1812, le marbre en 1815. Sous Louis XVIII, les statues furent achevées dans une cour des Invalides. A la demande du beau-frère de Valhubert et de la ville d'Avranches, la statue arriva dans la ville en 1829. En 1832, elle fut érigée dans les jardins de l'Evêché. Debout dans son uniforme de général, Valhubert tient dans sa main droite le sabre d'honneur reçu en 1803. A ses pieds est représenté le boulet qui le faucha. La statue mesure 4, 50m de hauteur.

History
Desirous of honouring on the Pont de la Concorde ten generals dead in combat, Napoleon ordered from Pierre Cartellier a statue of General Valhubert, who died at Austerlitz in 1805. The plaster model was completed in 1812, the marble in 1815. Under Louis XVIII, the statues were completed in a courtyard of the Invalides. At the request of Valhubert's brother-in-law and the city of Avranches, the statue arrived in the city in 1829. In 1832, it was erected in the gardens of the Bishop's Palace. Standing in his general's uniform, Valhubert holds in his right hand the sword of honour received in 1803. At his feet is represented the cannonball that struck him down. The statue measures 4.50m in height.
