Historique

History
The fortified house of Capchicot is a small building of the 16th and 17th centuries which presents an essentially historical interest. This main dwelling served as a hunting rendezvous for the King of Navarre during his stay in Nérac from 1577 to 1587. It also played a role as a stopping place for Henri of Navarre and his agents as clarified by the letters of ennoblement of the master of the place by Henri IV in 1597. Capchicot also served as lodging for the marshal of Praslin and Bassompierre, colonel-general of the Swiss, during the campaign of 1620 led by Louis XIII. In 1646, the lord of Capchicot and his son were assassinated by the son-in-law of the lord of Allons in a quarrel over precedence. Shortly after, during the Fronde, a unit of the army of Condé made Capchicot its lair in order to ransom the environs of Casteljaloux, then pillaged the main dwelling and burned the outbuildings. The lords of Capchicot then settled in their castle of Aillas but retained Capchicot until 1880. The openings of the ground floor were largely modified and the roof was redone in a rather austere manner. The interior remains picturesque but no old decoration has been preserved.
