L'édifice a été bâti par les De Cours de Thomazeau, famille aristocratique de créoles enrichis par la culture et le négoce de la canne à sucre en Martinique. L'édifice témoigne les goûts raffinés d'une petite noblesse provinciale cosmopolite au cours du siècle des Lumières, ce qui exclut toute trace de féodalité encre très présente dans la région.

History
Hotel built around 1770 on the ruins of a medieval castle, composed of a main dwelling and two wings of outbuildings in return at right angles flanking a courtyard closed by a wrought iron gate. The building was constructed by the De Cours de Thomazeau, an aristocratic family of Creoles enriched by the cultivation and trade of sugar cane in Martinique. The building testifies to the refined tastes of a small cosmopolitan provincial nobility during the Age of Enlightenment, which excludes any trace of feudalism still very much present in the region.
