History

This fortified mill, attested in the 14th century, is among the rare mills without a water-supply channel; constructed at the foot of a limestone cliff, it is fed by a resurgence of the Dordogne. The mill is flanked by a main dwelling in return, probably from the 16th century. Stopped around 1930, the mill is restored and transformed in 1939 into a dwelling house. Despite alterations to the machicolations at the rear and on one side, the defensive aspect remains on the downstream side, by the absence of windows on the ground floor and the presence of loopholes against the massive buttresses supporting the façade. On the ground floor, vaulted, there remain two millstones sealed to the floor and the reworked water chambers, evidence of a late modernization operating four pairs of millstones; one of the chambers still possesses two cast-iron turbines with their manually operated control sluices.
