Objet d'un hommage public en grande pompe lors de son inauguration en 1913, le monument à Jeanne d'Arc libératrice est l'un des derniers qui s'adresse à l'héroïne nationale, déjà béatifiée en 1909, et déjà honorée de longue date dans la région. C'est également l'une des dernières statues en pied érigées avant 1914. La statue en fonte de fer de Louis Fournier a été achetée sur catalogue. Il s'agit du même modèle que celui qui a été édifié à Beaugency en 1894. Le monument est ici représentatif de la fortune des modèles en série éditées d'après les œuvres de sculpteurs de renom. Le modèle de fonderie en plâtre existe toujours et est conservé dans le fonds Ferry-Capitain.
Description
Le monument est placé sur la place Jeanne d'Arc, entouré d'une grille en fer, au milieu des 4 lignes de marronniers plantés en quinconce. Il se compose d'un socle portant une statue grandeur nature de Jeanne d'Arc en fonte de fer. Il représente Jeanne d'Arc en pied, revêtue de son armure et coiffée d'un casque ouvert surmonté d'un panache. Elle tient son épée de la main droite et soulève son étendard de la main gauche. Le socle est orné d'une frise en bronze de chardons lorrains, dans un style dérivant de l'Art nouveau (qui n'était pas encore en place le jour de l'inauguration). Les piques de la grille d'entourage sont dans le même style. La frise supporte également le blason de Jeanne d'Arc, disposé sur chaque face.

The object of a public tribute in great pomp at its inauguration in 1913, the monument to Jeanne d'Arc the liberator is one of the last to address the national heroine, already beatified in 1909, and already honoured from long ago in the region. It is also one of the last full-length statues erected before 1914. The cast iron statue by Louis Fournier was purchased from a catalogue. It is the same model as the one erected at Beaugency in 1894. The monument here is representative of the popularity of series models published after works by renowned sculptors. The foundry model in plaster still exists and is preserved in the Ferry-Capitain collection.
Description
The monument is placed on the place Jeanne d'Arc, surrounded by an iron railing, amid 4 rows of horse-chestnuts planted in quincunx. It consists of a plinth bearing a life-size statue of Jeanne d'Arc in cast iron. It represents Jeanne d'Arc standing, clad in her armour and wearing an open helmet topped with a plume. She holds her sword in her right hand and raises her standard in her left hand. The plinth is adorned with a bronze frieze of Lorraine thistles, in a style derived from Art Nouveau (which was not yet in place on the day of inauguration). The spikes of the surrounding railing are in the same style. The frieze also supports the coat of arms of Jeanne d'Arc, displayed on each face.
