Au cours de la bataille de Jargeau, Jeanne est blessée à la tête par un projectile, pendant l'assaut du rempart. Se tenant la tête mais s'élançant à nouveau, son étendard dans l'autre main, elle franchit la brèche et délivre Jargeau... C'est ce moment qu'a représenté le sculpteur orléanais Alfred Lanson. La statue, dont le plâtre a été présenté au Salon de 1895, a été réalisée par le fondeur Barbedienne. Elle est passée en vente publique à l'Hôtel Drouot, à Paris, le 22 mars 1898. Elle a été achetée par la municipalité de Jargeau. Le socle a été commandé directement à un marbrier du Calvados.
Description
Le socle de pierre, en pyramide tronquée, supporte la statue en pied de la guerrière. Elle porte son épée à la ceinture et a perdu son casque, qui est représenté à terre, à ses pieds, à côté du projectile qui l'a blessée.

History
During the battle of Jargeau, Jeanne is wounded on the head by a projectile whilst assaulting the rampart. Holding her head but rushing forward again, her standard in the other hand, she crosses the breach and delivers Jargeau... It is this moment that the Orléanais sculptor Alfred Lanson represented. The statue, whose plaster was presented at the 1895 Salon, was cast by the founder Barbedienne. It was sold at public auction at the Hôtel Drouot, in Paris, on 22 March 1898. It was purchased by the municipality of Jargeau. The plinth was commissioned directly from a stone-mason in Calvados.
Description
The stone plinth, in truncated pyramid form, supports the full-length statue of the warrior woman. She wears her sword at her belt and has lost her helmet, which is represented on the ground, at her feet, beside the projectile that wounded her.
