Historique

History
The château de Rouville, rebuilt in 1492, today adopts a rectangular U-shaped plan around a terraced central courtyard. The curtain wall was demolished in the 18th century. This medieval defensive dwelling was restored around 1846 by the architects Châtelain and Lavenant, who proposed the addition of a half-projecting polygonal tower at the centre of the east façade. A suspended turret resting on a cul-de-four was planned in the south-west corner. The interior was considerably modified. From 1863 onwards, Ernest and Alphonse-Gabriel d'Aboville had the château restored by the architect Magne in a neo-Renaissance style by notably building a gallery against the west curtain wall and regularizing the openings. Certain interior woodwork was complemented by other elements from the châteaux of Chemault (demolished in 1850) and Rumont (today in ruins). The former medieval parish church of Rouville was repurchased in 1816 by the owners who made it a private chapel and whom they restored (porch, stained windows, high altar). The outbuildings are preserved near the château, around a farmyard, as well as a dovecote. The ensemble is situated to the north-west of a vast landscaped park planted after 1850 preserving species already in place, which descends towards the course of the Essonne. The 18th-century orangery was preserved in the park.
