Historique
Chassées à la Révolution de leur couvent de la place de la Platrière, les Visitandines du Puy s'installèrent en 1808 dans l'ancien couvent Saint-Maurice du Refuge, édifié en 1687. L'église de ce couvent étant trop exiguë, les soeurs firent construire en 1837 une nouvelle chapelle dont les plans furent dressés par le chanoine Péala. La partie conventuelle, également occupée par un pensionnat, fut agrandie en 1843-1846 par la construction de vastes bâtiments disposés en L au sud des jardins en terrasses dont le mur de clôture suivait au nord le tracé de l'ancienne enceinte urbaine. Ces jardins étaient typiques des propriétés civiles et religieuses de la région du Puy. La chapelle adopte un style qui atteste de la permanence de la tradition classique au Puy, avec une façade présentant un portail monumental, son oculus central et son fronton triangulaire.

History
Driven from their convent on the place de la Platrière at the Revolution, the Visitandines of Le Puy settled in 1808 in the old convent of Saint-Maurice du Refuge, built in 1687. As the church of this convent was too small, the sisters had a new chapel built in 1837, the plans of which were drawn up by the canon Péala. The convent part, also occupied by a boarding school, was enlarged in 1843-1846 by the construction of vast buildings arranged in an L to the south of the terraced gardens, the boundary wall of which followed to the north the line of the former urban fortifications.
