Souhaité par le fabricant de rubans stéphanois Pierre Deville, qui légua par testament,en 1905, une somme à cet effet, le monument fut confié au sculpteur Landowski et inauguré en 1912. Il célèbre l'ouvrier Jacquard, inventeur au début du XIXe siècle du métier à tisser du même nom. De forme parallélépipédique, le monument est flanqué de statues et orné de plaques de bronze illustrant des scènes de la vie de Jacquard.

History
Desired by the ribbon manufacturer from Saint-Étienne Pierre Deville, who bequeathed by will, in 1905, a sum for this purpose, the monument was entrusted to the sculptor Landowski and inaugurated in 1912. It celebrates the worker Jacquard, inventor at the beginning of the 19th century of the loom of the same name.
