Pour pallier l'augmentation de la population à la fin de la Première guerre mondiale, l'architecte Auguste Bossu propose un type d'immeuble à faible coût, avec le confort moderne, pour les personnes désirant vivre en ville mais n'ayant pas les moyens de faire un immeuble particulier. Son édifice empile 21 logements autour d'une cour, mettant en scène toutes les possibilités techniques et esthétiques du béton. L'ensemble est calculé scientifiquement.
