Historique

History
The existence of Pont-Thibault mill is recorded from 1750, on the Cassini map records. Although modest in its construction (timber framing set with brick, clay daub...), it remains one of the rare mills preserved in Sologne with its mechanism. The mill installed on the Beuvron is completed by the miller's dwelling and agricultural buildings. In operation until 1960, the mill has not been modified except for the wooden gearing replaced by a metal mechanism in 1943. In 1984, a study was conducted on hydraulic sites in Sologne in the 19th and 20th centuries. This study made it possible to draw up an inventory of mills still preserved and those that have disappeared since the 1950s. It was found that most had been sold, dispersed or broken up to allow the construction of holiday homes. It is in this context that the protection of Pont-Thibault mill must be understood, as it represents only limited interest from a historical point of view. The renowned mills of Romorantin and Lamotte-Beuvron having disappeared, it can be considered that an entire aspect of Sologne culture no longer has existence now except in documentary form. Pont-Thibault mill thus appears as a fragile witness to the main activity of the commune but also to the Sologne of the ponds.
