En 1920, le conseil municipal de Salins-les-Bains souhaite commémorer les 200 combattants de la commune morts pour la patrie et signe une délibération pour l'érection d'un monument aux morts. Un premier projet visait à en faire un monument cantonal; la ville s'associe finalement avec la commune voisine de Bracon. On choisit pour emplacement la promenade dite de la Barbarine, au nord de la ville, du côté de la gare de voyageurs. En octobre 1921, l'architecte Auguste Drouot (1881-1965) et le statuaire Eugène Bourgouin (1880-1924), qui proposent un modèle « d'art égyptien », sont retenus pour son exécution. Les deux palmes formant couronne de laurier et de chêne avec dorure à la feuille et patine de bronze sont fournies par Edgar Brandt, ferronnier à Paris, en 1923. Le coût total du monument s'élève à 45 000 francs.

Le monument aux morts se compose d'une victoire ailée tenant dans chaque main une couronne de laurier surmontant deux poilus debout tenant leur fusil avec leur crosse au sol. Au centre, se trouve une inscription « Salins et Bracon, à leurs morts glorieux ». Le monument est déplacé et restauré en 2018 dans le parc des Cordeliers, en face de son ancien emplacement. Les plaques des noms des morts pour la France alors au dos du monument sont disposées sur le parvis.

In 1920, the municipal council of Salins-les-Bains wishes to commemorate the 200 combatants from the commune who died for their country and passes a resolution for the erection of a war memorial. Description
The war memorial consists of a winged victory holding in each hand a laurel wreath surmounting two standing poilus holding their rifles with their butts on the ground.
