Attesté dès le 12e siècle, l'édifice est le siège d'une seigneurie qui ressort du domaine des comtes de Bourgogne. En 1479, le château est ruiné par les troupes de Louis XI, puis définitivement détruit par celles de Henri IV, en 1595. Une première zone, délimitée par deux fossés, constitue le château, avec vestiges d'enceinte, de constructions, du donjon du 13e siècle, du logis du 15e siècle, ainsi que de la porterie nord. Au-delà d'un fossé, au nord, une autre zone présente une sorte d'ouvrage avancé, avec citerne et tour. Ce dernier dispositif est un exemple rare dans la typologie des châteaux du Jura.

History
Attested from the 12th century onwards, the building is the seat of a seigneury which derives from the domain of the counts of Burgundy. In 1479, the château is ruined by the troops of Louis XI, then definitively destroyed by those of Henri IV, in 1595. A first zone, delimited by two ditches, constitutes the château, with vestiges of enclosure, of buildings, of the 13th-century keep, of the 15th-century main dwelling, as well as of the north gatehouse. Beyond a ditch, to the north, another zone presents a sort of advanced outwork, with cistern and tower. This latter device is a rare example in the typology of Jura châteaux.
