Historique
Au 18e siècle, la Grande Rue, actuelle rue du Commerce, débouchait sur la nouvelle place par la porte de l'horloge qui faisait partie de l'enceinte depuis le 15e siècle. En 1758, elle était fissurée, proche de la ruine ; on décida de la reconstruire au côté de la rue, sur l'ancien corps de garde lui-même déplacé. L'horloge fut remployée ainsi que ses cadrans. La cloche actuelle fut fondue en 1810 à Lons-le-Saunier. La tour forme l'angle sud-ouest de la rue avec la place : elle domine d'un niveau les maisons qui l'accotent. De plan rectangulaire, elle comporte une boutique en rez-de-chaussée avec une pièce à l'étage, l'étage de l'horloge et celui du beffroi. L'élévation compte quatre niveaux ; un bandeau souligne le niveau supérieur.

History
In the 18th century, the Grande Rue, present-day rue du Commerce, opened onto the new square through the clock gate which had been part of the enclosure since the 15th century. In 1758, it was cracked, close to ruin; it was decided to rebuild it at the side of the street, on the old guardhouse itself moved. The clock was reused as well as its dials. The current bell was cast in 1810 at Lons-le-Saunier. The tower forms the south-west angle of the street with the square: it dominates by one level the houses which adjoin it. Of rectangular plan, it comprises a shop on the ground floor with a room on the upper floor, the clock level and that of the belfry. The elevation has four levels; a band emphasizes the upper level.
