Le collège Saint-Jérôme a été créé à la fin du 15e siècle par le bénédictin comtois Antoine de Roche, prieur de Cluny, afin de recevoir et encadrer des religieux qui suivraient les leçons de l'université. L'église fut consacrée en 1520. L'édifice réalisé au début du 16e siècle était un des plus beaux et des plus spacieux de la ville. Les Etats de Franche-Comté s'y tenaient. Les bâtiments ont été en grande partie reconstruits au début du 18e siècle. Vendu comme bien national à des particuliers, il a été repris par les soeurs de la Visitation en 1826. Après le départ des religieuses en 1978, les bâtiments ont été réaménagés pour recevoir des services publics et des associations. Les bâtiments sont de plan en grille, avec l'église du côté nord, et déterminent deux cours : la cour du cloître contre l'église, avec galerie à arcades, et la cour est en contrebas, avec galerie latérale. L'église conserve le choeur avec abside à trois pans et deux travées de la nef accompagnées de deux chapelles latérales nord. Dans les bâtiments, sont conservés deux escaliers en pierre à rampes en fer forgé.

History
The Saint-Jérôme college was created at the end of the 15th century by the Comtois Benedictine Antoine de Roche, prior of Cluny, in order to receive and supervise religious persons who would attend lectures at the university. The church was consecrated in 1520. The building completed in the early 16th century was one of the most beautiful and spacious in the city. The States of Franche-Comté were held there. The buildings were largely rebuilt in the early 18th century. Sold as national property to private individuals, it was taken over by the sisters of the Visitation in 1826. After the departure of the religious women in 1978, the buildings were remodelled to accommodate public services and associations. The buildings are arranged in a grid plan, with the church on the north side, and determine two courtyards: the cloister courtyard against the church, with arcaded gallery, and the east courtyard at a lower level, with lateral gallery. The church preserves the choir with three-sided apse and two bays of the nave accompanied by two north lateral chapels. In the buildings, two stone staircases with wrought iron railings are preserved.
