Les Récollets entrent à Montpellier après le siège de 1622. En 1664, ils engagent la construction du couvent : la première partie des bâtiments conventuels est édifiée entre 1664 et 1666 et la deuxième, à partir de 1701. La construction de l'église se déroule de 1681 à 1689. Le clocher est ajouté entre 1716 et 1726. En 1790, l'ordre des Récollets est supprimé, leurs biens saisis et vendus. L'église sera alors utilisée comme magasin. Les bâtiments se dégradent jusqu'en 1805 où ils sont alors mis à la disposition du diocèse pour abriter le Grand Séminaire en 1807. L'église, restaurée, renferme un riche décor de peintures murales. L'ensemble subira des transformations durant tout le 19ème siècle. En 1910, le département de l'Hérault, devenu propriétaire, y installe ses archives. Une des salle de la chapelle abrite la bibliothèque des archives, une autre, les bureaux des conservateurs. Les bâtiments conventuels sont démolis en 1978. Seules une partie du jardin et la chapelle échappent à la destruction. Cette dernière abrite, depuis, les versements contemporains.

History
The Récollets enter Montpellier after the siege of 1622. In 1664, they undertake the construction of the convent: the first part of the conventional buildings is erected between 1664 and 1666 and the second, from 1701 onwards.
