Le phare du Mont-Saint-Loup d'Agde fait partie du programme de réseau des 51 phares de Rossel de 1825. Sa construction débute en 1834 pour s'achever en 1836. Le Saint-Loup est un modèle des premiers grands phares de Méditerranée : maison-phare, entourée d'une enceinte rappelant l'architecture fortifiée des redoutes militaires, centrée sur la tour carrée peu élevée autour de laquelle se répartissent huit salles, avec cuisine et réfectoire. Le hall principal ouvre sur un grand escalier menant à la salle de veille surmontée de la salle des machines. Un niveau souterrain abrite une citerne. L'architecture de ce phare est simple, fonctionnelle et solide avec des murs très épais, légèrement talutés, et des structures marquées en pierre de taille de basalte. Lors de la mise en service du phare du Mont Saint-Clair, à Sète en 1903, le phare est transformé par la Marine Nationale en sémaphore. Désarmé, utilisé par les Affaires Maritimes à partir de 1970, rénové en 1988, il est fermé en 2000.

History
The lighthouse of Mont-Saint-Loup d'Agde is part of Rossel's programme of a network of 51 lighthouses of 1825. Its construction begins in 1834 to be completed in 1836. The Saint-Loup is a model of the first major lighthouses of the Mediterranean: lighthouse house, surrounded by an enclosure recalling the fortified architecture of military redoutes, centred on the square tower of modest elevation around which eight rooms are distributed, with kitchen and refectory. The main hall opens onto a large staircase leading to the watch room surmounted by the machinery room. An underground level houses a cistern. The architecture of this lighthouse is simple, functional and solid with very thick walls, slightly sloped, and structures marked in basalt ashlar. At the time of commissioning of the lighthouse of Mont Saint-Clair, at Sète in 1903, the lighthouse is converted by the French Navy into a semaphore. Disarmed, used by the Maritime Affairs from 1970, renovated in 1988, it is closed in 2000.
