Il faut souligner le caractère exceptionnellement homogène de cet ensemble construit entre 1865 et 1869 sous la direction de l'ingénieur Charles Lenthéric. Il est caractéristique des techniques d'excellence du service des Phares et Balises dont le grand programme d'équipement des côtes françaises est alors en plein développement. Il est également remarquable par l'importance de ses dispositifs techniques ainsi que de son optique. Le phare est allumé en 1869. Haute de 27m, la tour carrée en maçonnerie de pierre apparente avec chaînes d'angle en pierre de taille, est insérée dans un bâtiment rectangulaire. Un escalier extérieur donne accès au vestibule d'où part l'escalier. En partie haute, la tour possède un encorbellement supportant une balustrade en pierre. L'ensemble du bâtiment est orné d'une corniche moulurée. La cour intérieure est fermée par un mur d'enceinte et par un bâtiment rectangulaire parallèle au bâtiment principal abritant les chambres des ingénieurs, garages, annexes.
