Historique

History
The convent, founded in 1456, was the former Saint-François convent of the Pieve d'Aregno, which became national property at the Revolution and was then sold at auction. In 1857, Dominican friars restored the church and two ruined buildings. The reconstruction enabled the installation of a school in 1857, which closed in 1860, as well as a college of philosophy and theology. Unoccupied from 1905 to 1914, the convent became an internment centre for German and Austrian civilian prisoners. The church and convent buildings formed by four wings are arranged around the cloister garden with a rectangular plan and open onto this space by round arches. The church, built against the south wing, is formed of a nave with a central vessel and lateral chapels with barrel vaults with lunettes. The choir comprises a first straight bay, extended by an apse in the form of a cul-de-four. The bell tower is crowned with a lantern topped with a dome. The convent buildings comprise a ground floor and one storey. A basement storey includes cellars and a wine press.
