The Ministère de la Culture's notice
Historique

History
Castello perhaps built between the late 12th century and 1246 by Ansaldo da Mare. It played an important role in relations between the island and Genoa. In 1388, the Da Mare made an act of fealty and homage to the commune of Genoa. The rally to France of the lords of San Colombano were the wars of Sampiero, which led to the dismantling of the fortress by Genoese soldiers in 1554. In the centre of the rampart are found the vestiges of the keep very much reduced. In the courtyard, numerous sections of walls allow one to guess at the presence of other structures.
