Historique

History
One of the best-preserved medieval military edifices on the island. Castello may have been built in the 13th century, occupied by the Genoese in the 15th century, then abandoned in the 16th century. The castello consists of a circular rampart pierced by several loopholes. It corresponds to a second state of construction, later than that of the tower. Two or three buildings were adjoined to the inside of the curtain wall. At the centre, the square keep presents masonry revealing two campaigns of construction. The upper part shows an aspect similar to that of the curtain wall. The lower part consists of carefully dressed limestone rubble stone, arranged in horizontal courses according to a pattern alternating thick courses with thinner courses. The whole of the ground floor is occupied by a cistern covered with a vault.
