La construction du phare a été approuvée par décision ministérielle du 20 décembre 1867 et devait servir de relais. Le projet, dessiné par l'ingénieur Rousseau, reprend le modèle de la maison-phare, associant une tourelle carrée, centrée en pignon, et un petit logis accolé qui servira d'habitation au gardien et à sa famille. Le feu est allumé le 15 septembre 1869 et est alimenté d'abord à l'huile végétale puis aux vapeurs de pétrole. Une nouvelle optique est installée en 1948 et le feu, électrifié en 1951. Le phare est en bon état et la distribution intérieure de la maison n'a pas été modifiée.

History
The construction of the lighthouse was approved by ministerial decision of 20 December 1867 and was intended to serve as a relay. The project, drawn by engineer Rousseau, follows the model of the lighthouse-house, combining a square turret, centred in the gable, and a small main dwelling adjoining it which will serve as accommodation for the keeper and his family. The light is lit on 15 September 1869 and is fuelled first with vegetable oil then with petroleum vapours. A new optical system is installed in 1948 and the light, electrified in 1951. The lighthouse is in good condition and the interior layout of the house has not been modified.
