La forteresse aurait été construite au 13e siècle par Guillaume, sire de Penhoat, à son retour de croisade. Ses dispositions ont évolué en fonction des progrès de l'artillerie et les vestiges subsistant semblent dater du 15e siècle. Suite aux destructions dues aux guerres de la Ligue, ne subsistent que deux tronçons des tours cylindriques sud et nord, construites en moellons de schiste, ainsi qu'un pan de la courtine Est. La tour sud était surmontée d'un châtelet. Une courtine, dont le tracé reste visible, devait relier les deux tours, et celles-ci au donjon. Au sud devait se trouver une enceinte rectangulaire défendue par un second fossé.

History
The fortress would have been built in the 13th century by Guillaume, lord of Penhoat, upon his return from crusade. Its arrangements evolved in function of the progress of artillery and the remaining vestiges appear to date from the 15th century. Following destructions due to the Wars of the League, there remain only two sections of the cylindrical towers south and north, built in rubble stone of schist, as well as one section of the east curtain. The south tower was surmounted by a small castle. A curtain, whose trace remains visible, must have linked the two towers, and these to the keep. To the south must have been located a rectangular enclosure defended by a second ditch.
