Built, at the corner of a square between 1892 and 1894, on plans conceived by architect Vidière, the building is designed to house both the services of the Town Hall - the large wedding hall reminds us of this - and those of the Savings Bank on the ground floor. Constructed in stone for the main facades and in brick for the rear facades, the building presents an eclectic style of great richness. Entry is effected at the intersection of the two wings by means of a corner rotunda surmounted by a monumental dome, itself surmounted by a lantern. This monumental treatment of the facade signals the building in the city and imposes it as a public building - the housing of the town hall moreover reinforces its status as a public building. Inside, the decoration is also inspired by the classical: marble columns support the dome of the staircase whilst pilasters scan the walls of the first floor landing. The letters R.F. which one finds on the facade as on the decoration of the staircase dome recall that the hotel was to accommodate municipal services. The Hôtel de Dreux is one of two hotels in the Centre region (the other being located at Châteauroux) to have adopted the corner rotunda. It is also one of the few to have retained an almost complete ornamental ensemble. The decoration of the wedding hall was carried out by Michon in 1899.
