Historique
L'activation d'un réseau de feux sur la Basse-Seine est à l'origine de l'édification du phare de Fatouville en 1849-1850 par le plus prestigieux architecte de phares du 19ème siècle, Léonce Reynaud. La tour mesure 33 mètres de haut et son feu porte à plus de 40 kilomètres. Le changement du cours du fleuve intervenu après des travaux d'endiguement, entraine l'arrêt de son activité en 1907 et sa vente en 1923. Le phare est doté d'une avant-cour plantée d'arbres de collection (cèdre, araucaria) ainsi que d'un enclos carré clôt par une grille ornée d'un décor à la symbolique des phares et balises. La tour tronconique est construite au centre, selon un plan octogonal, en granite et pierre de taille. Elle s'intègre dans un bâtiment d'habitation en U composé d'un corps central flanqué d'ailes en retour. Le sol du rez-de-chaussée de la tour est en marbre décoré et un escalier en pierre mène à la salle de veille puis à la salle de service de la lanterne surmontée d'un vitrage. Le logis d'habitation comporte des pièces de service ainsi que des appartements. Des communs ont été édifiés, en 1849-1850, dans l'enclos aménagé en verger et jardin.£Le phare de Fatouville est considéré comme l'une des oeuvres les plus réussies de Léonce Reynaud. History
The activation of a network of beacon fires on the Lower Seine is at the origin of the building of the Fatouville lighthouse in 1849-1850 by the most prestigious lighthouse architect of the 19th century, Léonce Reynaud. The tower measures 33 metres high and its light carries more than 40 kilometres.
