Historique
Suite à un souhait de la Préfecture, le maire de Breteuil a mis en chantier en 1859 une nouvelle mairie, destinée à remplacer l'ancienne, vétuste et malcommode. Le projet de départ prévoyant de réutiliser l'ancienne chapelle de l'Hôtel-Dieu a dû rapidement être abandonné. L'architecte Georges Simon a proposé de construire sur l'emplacement de cette chapelle un édifice de style néogothique rappelant l'ancienne construction. Les travaux se sont poursuivis jusqu'en 1869. Le bâtiment, à sept travées et étage carré, coiffé d'un fin clocher, possède notamment une salle des mariage à plafond en caisson et monumentale cheminée gothique.

History
Following a wish of the Prefecture, the mayor of Breteuil undertook in 1859 a new town hall, intended to replace the old one, dilapidated and inconvenient. The initial project planning to reuse the old chapel of the Hôtel-Dieu had to be quickly abandoned. The architect Georges Simon proposed to build on the site of this chapel a building of neogothic style recalling the old construction. The works continued until 1869. The building, with seven bays and a square storey, topped by a fine bell tower, notably possesses a wedding hall with a coffered ceiling and a monumental Gothic fireplace.
