History

The parish dedicated to Saint Etienne, with the estate of Perriers, was given to the abbey of Saint-Ouen de Rouen in 1050 by Guillaume, count of Arques, and his brother the archbishop Mauger. The present building is a vast cruciform construction in flint of Romanesque origin. To the end of the 11th century belong the plan of the building, the transept, the bell tower over the crossing of the transept and the walls of the nave. The buttresses of the nave were added in the 13th century. The western façade was rebuilt after 1868 by the architect Simon, in the style of the 13th century, as are the openings of the nave. In the 14th century, the crossing was rib-vaulted and the choir given a flat chevet. Inside, the nave is covered in roof structure with tie-beams and crown-posts in evidence, moulded wall-plates and painted decoration of the late 16th century. In the choir is found a retable of the 18th century painted and gilded, and a large stained-glass window of the 19th century by Duhamel Marette.
