Ce château néo-classique a été bâti entre 1773 et 1789 par Jean-Baptiste Le Brument pour Louis Chef-d'Hostel, négociant rouennais, issu d'une famille originaire de Vatteville-en-Roumois, de religion protestante, qui dut s'exiler lors de la révocation de l'édit de Nantes. Une très importante série de plans originaux et les livres de comptes du commanditaire permettent de connaître avec une grande précision la chronologie de la construction, la provenance des matériaux et des intervenants des différents corps de métier. Outre le château, l'ensemble architectural comprend deux bâtiments de communs et le bâtiment de ferme (grange-pressoir) ainsi que divers aménagements de jardins. Les matériaux employés sont la pierre et la brique traditionnelles en Normandie. L'agencement intérieur d'origine est conservé, la cuisine et le lavoir étant les seules pièces réellement transformées. Les dallages ont disparu, les planchers subsistent en partie. Les décors sont intacts. La salle à manger comprend des panneaux en trompe-l'oeil à décor de paysage signés par Bouël. La ferronnerie est due à Frérot, et la décoration à Le Sueur Le Jeune.

History
This neoclassical castle was built between 1773 and 1789 by Jean-Baptiste Le Brument for Louis Chef-d'Hostel, a merchant from Rouen, from a family originating from Vatteville-en-Roumois, of the Protestant faith, who had to go into exile following the revocation of the Edict of Nantes. The pavings have disappeared, the floors partly remain. The decorations are intact. The dining room includes trompe-l'oeil panels decorated with landscape signed by Bouël. The ironwork is by Frérot, and the decoration by Le Sueur Le Jeune.
