Le port au bois comportait des arrêts et un dispositif de cordages sur la rivière pour maîtriser le flottage des bois. Un local pour cordages, fers... et le logement d'un commis. En 1781, la ville décide d'implanter un nouvel édifice contre le glacis de la porte Rivotte, retenant le projet du contrôleur adjoint Bertrant qui est réalisé en 1783. En 1880, l'établissement de la ligne de chemin de fer de Besançon à Morteau ampute l'édifice de son corps arrière de magasin. Le pavillon antérieur, conservé, est de plan rectangulaire, à un étage, couvert d'un toit à croupes. Il présente une façade en pierre de taille néo-classique.

History
The timber port comprised stops and a rope device on the river to control the floating of logs. A room for ropes, iron... and lodging for a clerk. In 1781, the city decided to establish a new building against the glacis of the Rivotte gate, adopting the project of the assistant controller Bertrant which was carried out in 1783. In 1880, the establishment of the railway line from Besançon to Morteau removed from the building its rear body of warehouse. The earlier pavilion, preserved, is of rectangular plan, with one storey, covered with a hipped roof. It presents a neoclassical ashlar stone façade.
