Historique
La forge de Montagney obtint sa permission de mise en activité en 1689. En 1748, elle fabriquait principalement des boulets de canons. Vers 1810, elle est achetée par Monsieur de Grammont qui la remet à neuf. Elle comportait un haut-fourneau, deux feux d'affinerie, un martinet, un patouillet et deux moulins à blé. En 1828, elle produisait 200 tonnes de fonte affinée, puis transformée en fil de fer. En 1833, une tréfilerie complète l'ensemble. L'apogée se situe vers 1840, mais le déclin est rapide. Après l'arrêt en 1850, on eut un moulin, puis une centrale électrique (en 1922) , tandis que les autres bâtiments sont utilisés par une exploitation agricole. L'ensemble conservé présente encore le barrage, un canal, le haut-fourneau, une partie de la halle à charbon, une ancienne halle ouverte (transformée postérieurement en atelier et magasin) , des écuries, un bâtiment de logements ouvriers à étage, un bâtiment de logement du directeur, la maison du maître de forge (de la deuxième moitié du 18e siècle, avec des décors intérieurs).

History
The forge of Montagney obtained its permission to operate in 1689. In 1748, it was principally manufacturing cannon balls. Around 1810, it was purchased by Monsieur de Grammont who had it renovated. It comprised a blast furnace, two refinery hearths, a small hammer, a stamping mill and two flour mills. In 1828, it was producing 200 tonnes of refined cast iron, then transformed into wire. In 1833, a complete wire-drawing mill added to the ensemble. The peak was around 1840, but decline was rapid. After shutdown in 1850, there was a mill, then an electric power station (in 1922), while the other buildings were used by an agricultural operation. The surviving ensemble still presents the dam, a canal, the blast furnace, part of the coal shed, an old open hall (subsequently transformed into a workshop and store), stables, a workers' residential building with storey, a building for the director's residence, the master ironsmith's house (from the second half of the 18th century, with interior decorations).
