Chantier commencé en 1838, canal ouvert en 1844. Canal utilisé jusqu'à la seconde guerre mondiale malgré la concurrence du chemin de fer à partir de 1879. Propriété de l'Etat, mais concession à un syndicat intercommunal qui en assure l'exploitation et l'entretien.

History
Excavation of a diversion canal of the Dordogne decided in 1837; plans entrusted to engineer Vauthier; works awarded to contractors from Bordeaux. Work site begun in 1838, canal opened in 1844.
