Historique
Le monument à Guynemer est l'un des rares monuments conservés dédié à un personnage historique marquant de l'aviation militaire française, et témoigne aussi du rôle de la base aérienne de Longvic (base aérienne 102) dans la Première Guerre mondiale. Tué en combat aérien le 11 septembre 1917, Georges Guynemer fut l'un des as de l'aviation de la Grande Guerre. Un projet de monument à sa gloire vit le jour en 1928. Inauguré le 25 juillet 1932, il est l'oeuvre de l'architecte Gaston Paris. Il se compose d'une colonne monumentale, avec sur sa face principale un relief en bronze d'Ovide Yencesse, et de chaque côté, deux parties horizontales maçonnées. A l'arrière, une trappe permettait d'allumer la lanterne du sommet, sommet modifié en 1966.

History
The monument to Guynemer is one of the rare monuments preserved dedicated to a striking historical figure of French military aviation, and also bears witness to the role of Longvic air base (air base 102) in the First World War. Killed in aerial combat on 11 September 1917, Georges Guynemer was one of the aces of aviation in the Great War. A project for a monument to his glory came about in 1928. Inaugurated on 25 July 1932, it is the work of architect Gaston Paris. It consists of a monumental column, with on its main face a bronze relief by Ovide Yencesse, and on each side, two horizontal masonry sections. At the rear, a trap door allowed the lantern at the top to be lit, the top modified in 1966.
