Historique

History
Cross erected in 1677. According to tradition, it constituted the destination of processions carried out during the rogations, during the three days preceding the Ascension, to attract divine blessing upon the crops and animals. The first day was dedicated to hay, the second to harvest, the third to the vintage. The cross is composed of a shaft of hexagonal section, set upon a base of square section, a capital with Ionic volutes and a cross of square section. The whole is set upon a square pedestal, with upper edges chamfered. The sculptures of the shaft represent the instruments of the Passion, and illustrate the accounts of the Gospels (the pitcher with which Pilate washed his hands; the cock of denial; the scourge of flagellation...). The capital, of naive style, recalls the Ionic order with its volutes. A Christ is sculpted on the obverse of the cross.
