At the end of the 19th century, the wine-grower Ferdinand Laroche inherits the family estate which he modernizes through the installation of a windmill that pumps water for consumption and distillation. He has built in front of the house a large reservoir and a tower of ashlar stone above which he has the windmill installed. Operational from 1902, it consists of a turbine with two wheels each formed of a perforated cast-iron hub and curved blades, as well as steel sheet rims. Approximately two metres in front of the turbine is the automatic disorientation device, known as the Lebert system. It is a small wheel with blades, fixed to the stator, which rotates the turbine on its vertical axis, either to turn it into the wind or to turn it away and slow it down. This windmill is a representative example of the most developed Bollée system and of the turbine with the largest diameter. The structure, which has undergone no modifications, is still in working order.
