L'architecte Pierre Bienvenu, en charge de la reconstruction de la nouvelle église Saint-Firmin, s'oriente vers un style monumental faisant cohabiter la pierre et le béton. L'édifice se structure autour d'un plan carré. Une série de portiques en béton armé constitue l'ossature générale de l'église. L'ensemble adopte une perspective intérieure verticale fortement inspirée de l'architecture gothique, impression renforcée par la flèche couronnant l'édifice. L'intérieur se distingue par un volume de vaste dimension dont l'unité n'est que peu altérée par la présence de collatéraux.£L'église de May-sur-Orne révèle une très grande richesse décorative notamment avec les baies sculptées par Charles -Emile Pinson ainsi que les dalles de verre élaborées et réalisées par l'atelier Barillet. L'ensemble du chemin de croix est l'oeuvre de l'artiste peintre et sculpteur Yvonne Guégan qui signe là une création très appliquée et soucieuse des détails. Elle réussit l'alliance entre des éléments de facture moderne dans sa conception et sa structure et des références plus traditionnelles avec l'utilisation de la pierre locale évoquant ainsi l'héritage minier de la commune. L'église Saint-Firmin fut inauguré le 10 juillet 1960.

History
The architect Pierre Bienvenu, in charge of the reconstruction of the new church of Saint-Firmin, oriented himself towards a monumental style bringing together stone and concrete. The edifice is structured around a square plan. A series of reinforced concrete porticoes constitutes the general structure of the church. The whole adopts a strongly vertical interior perspective inspired by Gothic architecture, an impression reinforced by the spire crowning the edifice. The interior is distinguished by a vast volume whose unity is only slightly altered by the presence of aisles. The church of May-sur-Orne reveals a very great decorative richness notably with the openings sculpted by Charles-Emile Pinson as well as the glass slabs elaborated and realized by the Barillet workshop. The entire Stations of the Cross is the work of the artist painter and sculptor Yvonne Guégan who signs here a very careful creation and mindful of details. She succeeds in the alliance between elements of modern character in its conception and structure and more traditional references with the use of local stone evoking thus the mining heritage of the commune. The church of Saint-Firmin was inaugurated on 10 July 1960.
